Naturalista: Natasha Pate (Zambian living in Ghana)

We are on a roll today!!! It’s happening and somehow in the middle of the chaos called life, these posts are happening!

Our next interviewee is NATASHA! She is one of those ladies from that number one group. You know the one? That special group of ladies who share everything between hair and life! That group has some of the most AMAZING ladies I have ever met (I kid you not!). The Afro-Dite group baaaby!

Question One: Why did you choose to become a Naturalista?

NP: I wanted to say something “woke”. But the truth is my perm had made my edges fall off and I looked like I was bald or had on those Jewish hats “kippah” but made out of hair LOL. I used to hide my mess under wigs, lots of wigs.

Question Two: Did you big chop (BC) or transition:

NP: Big Chop.

Question Three: Why did you choose the BC route?

NP: I had no choice due to my lack of edges.

Question Four: What did you discover about going the natural route?

NP: My head is a lot bigger than I thought it was! Nooo…. Lol seriously I learnt how to wear makeup because I did not have the “perfect face” for a big chop. So I had to learn to contour and accessorize with big earrings and big necklaces.

Question Five: What would you have done differently? Do you regret the decision?

NP: There is absolutely nothing I would have done differently, I loved that I could switch it up without doing much. I would wear a wig in the morning, head wrap in the afternoon and be blonde in the evening, so I regret nothing.

Question Six: Please share your regimen.

NP: Oooh dear! This changes as I am always trying stuff some Youtuber has recommended. I have learnt that it also matters what you give your body not just what you put in your hair.

Question Seven: What are your three hair staples?

NP: Shea butter, wide toothed comb and my silk bonnet.

Question Eight: What is your go to style?

NP: Box braids or wash and go.

Question Nine: Who is your celebrity/otherwise hair crush?

NP: Lupita Nyong’o. She has styles you can actually achieve.

Question Ten: What are the most memorable moments of being a Naturalista?

NP: Sitting with my little girl, and she looked at me and said “I am going to keep my hair natural like yours because it looks beautiful.” She loooves telling everyone that her hair is natural.

Question Eleven: What has surprised you most about going natural?

NP: I have had a perm since I was 8 years so my hair has always been thin, so I was surprised at how thick my hair actually was, I have broken a comb or two *hehe*.

Question Twelve: What is the most common question people ask you about your hair?

NP: “How do you get your hair to look so nice?” all I can say is that it is magic! Magic and a bucket load of conditioner.

Question Thirteen: What does being a Naturalista mean to you?

NP: I get to love and feel beautiful with the hair that I was born with.

One: The one thing people don’t know about you?

NP: I can fall asleep anywhere even standing, all I have to do is close my eyes.

Two: Favourite hobby/hobbies?

NP: I love cooking.

Three: Three things you can’t live without?

NP: My phone, a really good spatula and a good bra.

Four: If you could have a meal with anyone (passed away or alive) who would it be? What would you eat?

NP: Jim Hendrix. I would go through his wardrobe with him, have carrot cake with cream cheese icing.

Five: If you had one super power what would it be?

NP: I highly suspect that I would have a useless super power. But I would make rum and coke appear anytime I want. Hmm, maybe the fall asleep anywhere is a super power.

Thank you soooo much Natasha. You are such a wonder! I loved having you on the blog. Pssst y’all Natasha was a natural bride, one of the very few I know and she rocked that style gorgeously! By the way Natasha, please look into vlogging, I think you would do it well, and by well I mean very well.

Look our for the third interview soon. Right now I have to go put my warrior princess to bed before things get out of hand, which is something no mother wants to happen. See you on the other side of this interview.
