Question One: Why did you choose to become a Naturalista?
IN: I have always had natural hair, my mom never relaxed it despite my constant nagging as a little girl. Though she had relaxed hair and I always wanted hair that was easy to comb. However when I was a little older (11) I decided to have my hair blown. The blow gave it terrible heat damage that I had no idea about and lived with for the next 2 years.
When I was 13 my aunt introduced my mom and I to “the healthy hair journey” and that is when my journey started.
However years ago I decided to loc my hair for easy maintenance. The decision to unloc is currently being mentally debated.
Question Two: Did you big chop (BC) or transition:
IN: When I found out that my hair was heat damaged, I decided to just transition and let the damage break off with a few trims.
Question Three: Why did you choose the transition route?
IN: I chose to transition because I wasn’t ready to let go of the length.
Question Four: What did you discover about going the natural route?
IN: I already had natural hair and only damaged ends down technically I was already natural.
Question Five: What would you have done differently? Do you regret the decision?
IN: I would have taken the beginning of the journey more seriously. I don’t regret anything yet.
Question Six: Please share your regimen.
IN: I currently have locs so my regimen is quite simple.
I moisturize about every other day. Oil my scalp once a week. I wash my hair and condition about every 3 weeks. I also re-twist the locs every 3 weeks.
Question Seven: What are your three hair staples?
IN: Olive oil, shampoo, flax seed gel.
Question Eight: What is your go to style?
IN: Bun’d/tied BACK or just letting it hang.

Question Ten: What are the most memorable moments of being a Naturalista?
IN: My first twist out that I wore to school. I think I was in grade 9 and it was kinda sorta a disaster. Everybody thought I forgot to comb my hair.
And because it wasn’t all that, I decided to go along with the story. 😂
Question Eleven: What has surprised you most about going natural?
IN: All the various things your hair can do, it can curl, be straight, look long today and short tomorrow.
Also the number of people who are scared of going natural, they pass comments like, “You just have good hair” And I say “You don’t know what my hair and go through.”
Question Twelve: What is the most common question people ask you about your hair?
IN: “How do you get your hair like that?”
Question Thirteen: What does being a Naturalista mean to you?
IN: Being natural means feeling great in you own hair and showing it all the care it needs. It also means being able to stand out and be bold about the way your hair grows, yes it’s kinky, curly, coily and loc’d now, and that is how I was designed.
