Naturalista: Nala Lahru (Zambia)

Hey hey! It’s your girl again. Back today with yet another smashing interviews! PS: I love love love natural hair, I really can’t stress this enough.

Today we are interviewing the vibrant NALA! Did I mention that she is fire? This girl writes, takes pictures, and loves books. In her own words she is a Creative. Lastly Nala is one of those ladies from my favorite *shhh* group – Afrodite.

Question One: Why did you choose to become a Naturalista?

NL: I wanted a big Afro! Lol! Umm I got tired of using cream in my hair and after the wave nouveau I had made my hair break so I just decided it was time to lay off the creamy crack.

Question Two: Did you big chop (BC) or transition:

NL: I did a BC.

Question Three: Why did you choose the BC route?

NL: It was my best option really.

Question Four: What did you discover about going the natural route?

NL: It enabled me to easily to easily monitor my hair growth and I only had to trim as necessary.

Question Five: What would you have done differently? Do you regret the decision?

NL: I wouldn’t have done anything different and I regret nothing at all.

Question Six: Please share your regimen.

NL: Well I usually deep condition (DC) about once a week unless I have a protective style in. I currently have a leave in conditioner and an ordinary rinse off conditioner for when all I want is to do a wash and go (co-washing is my thing, with the occasional use of baking soda for clarifying). I also have a cholesterol treatment conditioner for DCs and TRESemmé anti-breakage too.

My essentials include coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil and castor oil. I use these for prepoo (pre-shampoo), as well as hot oil treatment when needed.

NL: Conditioner, ecostyler gel, and more conditioner.

Question Eight: What is your go to style?

NL: I’m not sure I have one specific one. It varies from time to time. I guess at the moment its just my tapered cut.

NL: Umm… taking down my dreadlocks. Coconut cream worked wonders.

Question Eleven: What has surprised you most about going natural?

NL: The versatility of my hair once I started treating it right.

Question Twelve: What is the most common question people ask you about your hair?

NL: “How do you manage?”

Question Thirteen: What does being a Naturalista mean to you?

NL: It means rocking a fro that matches my attitude.

One: The one thing people don’t know about you?

NL: I hate liquorice.

Two: Favourite hobby/hobbies?

NL: Writing/ Reading (why do I have to pick only one?)

Three: Three things you can’t live without?

NL: Conditioner, conditioner, and ummm… conditioner.

Dark and lovely cholesterol treatment, TRESemmé anti breakage conditioner, a rinse off conditioner and of course a leave in conditioner.

I am Queen of the co-wash (George of the jungle screams).

Four: If you could have a meal with anyone (passed away or alive) who would it be? What would you eat?

NL: Probably my parents. Umm… Kaya something hot and spicy.

Five: If you had one super power what would it be?
